From achieving the highest score in a popular video game to recording the longest free fall, humans have found many ways to compete for records. But what is the record for the most taps of a spacebar?
According to Guinness World Records, that record belongs to American computer programmer and entrepreneur Jack Waz. On October 11, 2019 , Jack tapped his keyboard's spacebar an astonishing 805 times in exactly 60 seconds. To celebrate his world record, he uploaded a YouTube video of him counting out the taps on a mechanical keyboard that has since been viewed nearly 300,000 times. This phenomenal feat was also achieved on October 11th during a Twitch livestream sponsored by Gizmodo.
Jack's success could be attributed to his vast experience with programming and his knowledge of keyboard shortcuts and gaming. He was able to quickly learn the rhythm necessary to maximize his speed on the spacebar taps. The 60-second time limit also forced him to stay focused and keep up with rapid-fire speeds throughout the challenge so as not to lose time or momentum.
Of course, maintaining such a high-intensity pressure was not easy for Jack. He admits it took him weeks of practice runs before he felt ready to take on such an intense challenge. After several attempts, he eventually broke through and achieved something that many thought impossible, proving that practice really does make perfect!
